Coming Up With The Perfect Floor Plan For Your Family

Functional home interior in new style

The search for the perfect floor plan for your family can be difficult. There are so many different types of homes and so many different ways to design them. You might love the layout of your current home, but you know that it’s not big enough for your family. Or maybe you’ve been on the market for a while, and nothing has come up. Coming up with a floor plan is probably one of the most nerve-wracking things you’ll ever do. It could take days, weeks, or even months to find the perfect floor plan, but it will be worth it at the end of the day. Here are some helpful tips on how to make finding your perfect floor plan easy:

Make Sure You Have Enough Bedrooms

When planning a floor plan for your family, the most important thing you can do is make sure you have enough bedrooms. In a typical house, you’ll have about three or four bedrooms, but you’ll want at least two of them to be able to sleep the whole family comfortably. If your family consists of five or six people, you’ll want at least four bedrooms.

Don’t Overlook The Bathroom Situation

Even though you’ll spend the most time in your family room, the bathroom is probably the most neglected room. It’s important to make sure you have a plan for each room in the house, but you also don’t want to overthink it. Ideally, you’d have one bathroom for every bedroom in the house, though that’s not always possible. In any case, having one bathroom for every bedroom is a good idea. This room should feel like a spa, not a bathroom. If you have kids, they’ll love to use the bath as a playroom or as a storage space. Having a separate bath space will give the house a homier feel, making the rest of the house feel more comfortable.

Have A Convenient Laundry Room

A separate laundry room is always a good idea, and if you have a small house, you can always add to your existing laundry room! A good rule of thumb is to keep the room as open as possible so that you have plenty of room to walk and move around. If you have a washer and dryer, you don’t need to overcrowd these rooms, so select a room that has a combination of appliances to best suit your family’s needs.

Have Adequate Storage Space

You don’t need a lot of storage space, but having a few shelves or a shelving unit that you can turn to use as handy storage space will do the trick. Additionally, you don’t want to be constrained by space either way. A good rule of thumb is to keep your storage space at least twice as big as what you currently have. This will ensure that you have plenty of room for everything and still have room for growth!

Designate A Dedicated Space For Work

If you’re in the mood to really crank up the hustle and bustle in your house, you can always create an office in the family room. This could be a brilliant idea if you have a spouse who loves to work from home and you want to give them a more centralized workspace. Even if you don’t have a spouse working from home, a family room with a desk and chair is always a great place to do your work. You don’t have to sit in front of a desk all day – you can still work in the family room and still have some privacy. Select a less formal room if you have your furniture and prefer to work in a more informal setting.

Consider Your Outdoor Space

Your outdoor space is just as important as your indoor space. If you’re looking at a larger home, you’ll want an outdoor space, so make it count! If you’re looking at a smaller house, an outdoor space could be less important, but it’s another important portion of your floor plan to consider at the end of the day! Ideally, your outdoor space will be big enough to fit a small pool, a backyard, and some seating.
